It is rightly said that Texas has defined rodeos and rodeos often defines Texas. The meaning is simple that whatever way you take it you will find rodeos and Texas hand in hand. Evolving from the ranches of the plains of Texas, rodeo has developed into a full fledged professional sport in the modern world. Leading the rodeo culture, there is nothing bigger in Texas than rodeos.
Modern day rodeos developed from the every day chores performed at the ranches. These included rounding up cattle, riding them, roping them and branding them. These were later developed into modern day events at the rodeos. Today cowboys and cowgirls compete for the prize money and the most prized award, the rodeo belt buckle. Taking cue from the American ranches and rodeo events other countries having similar livestock and ranching culture have developed their own style of rodeo. The events held at these places are native to their region. However there are seven events that are considered as a standard and being performed at all the rodeo shows. These events are bull riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping and barrel racing. Organized and recognized by associations, the PRCA is the largest association that hosts the major rodeo events in Texas. Check out the link for some tickets to concerts at the Houston Rodeo
